*THIS RESTAURANT CLOSED IN 2013*
Miyajima, an outstanding Japanese sushi and noodle bar near Clapham Junction in Battersea has become my most frequently visited restaurant this past year (in part because a friend and fellow sushi fan lives in the area).
When eating at different Japanese restaurants I like to try dragon rolls as a benchmark, and Miyajima’s dragon rolls rank top.

Crazy dragon rolls: crab stick, cucumber, avocado, grilled eel, masago/sesame seeds + yakitori sauce
Here, the wide variety of sushi and sashimi is consistently excellent as are all side dishes: miso soup, grilled asparagus, tempura, edamame, katsu and gyoza but the house speciality has to be the beautifully presented and equally tasty thick rolls such as crazy dragon rolls (eel, avocado, yakitori sauce), rainbow rolls (tuna, salmon, red snapper, avocado) and dancing eel rolls (grilled eel, avocado, cream cheese, yakitori sauce).
There’s a fairly broad selection of wines and beers to choose from, and at reasonable prices (wine from £13 a bottle).

Miyajima – LardButty restaurant of the week
Miyajima is a busy restaurant with seating on long benches which usually makes for a friendly atmosphere although waiting staff often don’t speak English well enough to engage in conversation. And they do hurry along late-eating customers as they close at 11pm. On the dot.
