Great Thai Cafe (now Great Thai Restaurant)

Great Thai Cafe, Lardbutty restaurant of the week

The Great Thai Cafe is true to its name. It’s a cheap and cheerful cafe serving authentic Thai dishes, next to The George pub on Great Portland Street and the corner of Mortimer Street (five minutes walk from Oxford Circus).

I stumbled across it after visiting a nearby sports shop this evening, to buy some decent running shoes. And shopping gave me an appetite.

A main course costs around £6 whether you eat in or take away, and payment is by cash only. Probably the best pad thai I’ve had, ingredients such as crushed peanuts, mixed spice (hot) and shredded cabbage were served in small portions on the side, to mix in as I pleased.

The Great Thai Cafe with its “Great Taste / Great Price” banner, does free deliveries within a one mile radius on orders over £15 (worth bearing in mind with work friends for those days you’ve been out the night before and feel particularly hungry at lunch time…) and also offers outside catering and party service.
