Craft Beer Co pub Clapham

The Craft Beer Co pub Clapham has a large outdoor area covered by two big gazebos. It wasn’t exactly a warm evening last night but due to the outdoor heaters and kitsch astro-turf – not to mention fine craft ales and burgers – this was one popular beer garden.

You’ll find the best part of 30 real ales and ciders on draft (regularly changing), a bottled beer selection and a varied wine list too. Bar staff have been – on all of my visits – really helpful about what’s on tap – happy to make recommendations based on what you like and give you a taster to try first.

This mash of images shows the draft selection from last week (Friday 7th Feb – wedding recce):

While sitting outside by a heater, enjoying the fresh, night air and a few different ales in the beer garden, the bar staff kept passing by with fabulous looking burgers and chips. The temptation was too much so we ate dinner here too.

The food menu may be short but it’s specialised: the folks at Forty Burgers (who make the burgers here and at two other craft beer pubs) certainly know how to do a fab burger.

We ordered two beef burgers (“using beef exclusively sourced from a Royal Warrant holder to HM The Queen; only meat from cows raised in Aberdeen’s lush, natural pastures, enters Forty Burgers’ kitchen – so what you taste is a unique blend of 40 day aged rib and 30 day aged rump”), served in a fresh, glazed brioche bun with house skin-on chips.

We shared a heat – a patty double dipped in hot buffalo sauce served with blue cheese, red onion relish, pickles and shredded lettuce @ £11.70 and a cheese and bacon – red onion relish, shredded lettuce, pickles, smoked streaky bacon and mature cheddar or stilton @ £11.70.

Considering that Craft Beer Co only took over this pub a couple of months ago, in December 2013 (taking over from the Manor House pub that wasn’t anything special, or at least wasn’t a particularly busy pub) their management have completely turned it around and made it – within two months of opening – a popular spot.
