Dakin + Son’s – baconbuttalicious

The smell of cooking oil and frying food first thing in the morning makes me feel queasy. I invariably hold my breath when passing greasy spoons on the way to work as the whiff of hot fat turns my stomach.

But the smell of pure, unadulterated bacon that greets you on arrival at London Bridge train station and entices you into Dakin & Son on London Bridge Walk is a different story altogether.

Dakin & Co – breakfast butties

Every morning the sight of crisp-shirted staff, looking professional, serving a line of customers reminds me of the legendary Aunt Fanny’s of Harrogate (Aunt Fanny’s was run by a smart retired couple, serving the best butties in the early hours of the morning to a post-pub/club crowd; it no longer exists but has gone down in history holding a very special place in the hearts and bellies of those whose Harrogate nights out used to end there…).

But back to the present…

Bacon butty – beeeautiful

It’s £2.00 for a bacon roll, or you can get a ‘big value breakfast’ for £5.50 – 2 eggs, 2 rashers of bacon, 2 sausages, 2 slices of toast, tomatoes and a tea or coffee.

It might only be a teeny sandwich shop but it’s a really good one.
